Six Degrees of Separation [Pt. 2 / 3 ]
Title: six degrees of separation
Fandom: Haven
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: There is drinking..
Characters: Duke/Audrey

Another short one. I’m notorious for them, I like to think. Six Degrees of Separation [Pt. 2 / 3]. If you want to come after me with pitchforks, blame my muse! She dragged me into this. j/k. Audrey returns to Haven with Duke, seemingly spends the second of her last three days with Nathan. Duke-centric, interestingly enough.

Disclaimer: I do not own these gorgeous people.

And the third, is when your world splits down the middle
And the fourth, you’re gonna think that you fixed yourself.
Fifth, you see them out with someone else…

His world falls apart when the Rouge reaches the docks. The woman he loves has two days of her life left before she is stolen from him, and he watches her run. He watches her leave without a word of goodbye.

(He watches that heron flying away)

He watches as Nathan lifts her up into his arms, holds her, whispers lies that she’ll be okay now that she’s away from Duke. An indescribable pain blossoms in his chest.

(His world is splitting down the middle.)

And I will find my corner
Maybe tonight I’ll call you
After my blood turns into alcohol.
No I just want to hold you.

The day passes like a blur. He doesn’t see her. Instead, he drowns himself in alcohol. He lets himself slowly slip away with the sweet release that numbing liquid brings him.

He drinks until the moon rises; that’s when he thinks he’s pushed her away. That he’s extinguished any feeling for the woman named Audrey Parker. He thinks he’s drowned that stupid painful thing they call a heart so it won’t hurt anymore.

He’s plastered when she comes. He doesn’t hear her come in. He lifts a shot to his lips—having lost count which it was—and bottoms up. The burning liquid slides down his throat, a much-needed distraction from the pain in his chest and he anguish of unrequited feelings skewering his heart.

When she draws nearer and dares to take a seat next to him, he for once doesn’t feel the pain.

“Come to rub it in, Parker?” he slurs, hating the grating words even as they leave his lips. “Go ahead, throw it back in my face. You know you want to.” The last rational part of his brain registers the hurt his words have caused her, but the irrational wins out.

“A while ago, there might have been something to throw back in your face," she coolly remarks. “Now I see that there isn’t anything left.” She makes as if to leave, but a part of him knows she won’t. Firstly because she’s only just arrived, and lastly because if Duke Crocker knows Audrey Parker, he knows she wouldn’t want to leave on a fight.

“Yeah there is," he mumbles, giving her a lop-sided smile. The same one he always saved for her. “You haven’t taken it all from me. And Nathan hasn’t taken all of it from you. Not yet.

But I still feel the same; maybe I should let you go.
You know I’ll find my corner; maybe tonight I’ll call you
After my blood is drowning in alcohol
No, I just want to hold you.

Reviews are love! Music was “Six Degrees of Separation” by The Script, and “Give Me Love” by Ed Sheeran.
